Hello Sunshine!
I’m so glad you’re here! You’ve come to the right place if you’re interested in anything related to vintage fashion, vintage hair and makeup, travel, and life abroad!
Who am I?
I’m Kacie (aka Kacie Sunshine!) and I’m a TCK (“third culture kid”), expat, mom, and vintage enthusiast and on this blog I try to share all these passions of mine in a fun way. My goal is to share my love of vintage fashion, hair, makeup, and travelling in style with others who love vintage and want to learn more about it. I also love makeup, photography, and swing dancing and can’t help but share my passion for that too!
I found my love of vintage as a child
I grew up on the island of Saipan, in the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands in Micronesia. Since then I’ve lived all over the world with my family including Shanghai, China, Tokyo, Japan, and am currently living in Paris, France. I guess travel is sort of my lifestyle now, though its less glamorous than it seems on social media.
As a child I had an interest in World War 2 because Saipan was significant during World War 2 (where a major battle took place). Coincidentally, my grandfather served in the Navy in WW2 and happened to be part of that battle on Saipan so I felt I had a personal connection with the place.
Living on Saipan was like being in a living museum, so many things were left over from the war. My grandfather’s stories and living in a place where the war had happened made history come alive for me. I was fascinated by the 1940s era and when I discovered swing music through an old Disney cartoon, I was hooked! In the 1990s swing dancing had a revival and everyone was learning to dance. All of these things fueled my love for the mid century era; my love for vintage clothing naturally followed.
I rediscovered myself through vintage
As time went on, though, I stopped dressing in vintage. I finished college and grad school, got married, had a bunch of babies, moved abroad and back a couple times. I guess you could say I lost myself for a little bit. Several years ago I started to resurface and I discovered that there were now several vintage reproduction clothing companies and an entire subculture of modern pinup, rockabilly, and vintage enthusiasts!
Changing your clothing style over to vintage inspired style, learning to do vintage style hair, and vintage makeup techniques take quite the learning curve. It doesn’t happen overnight and your vintage style can change over time. Its taken me a while to learn these things and I find that my style has really evolved even within vintage style.
My hope for this blog is that I can help you make the vintage style journey and travel style journey a little easier. I would love to hear from you about what you’d like to see here on the blog!
